Welcome, ROC Leaders

Mark your calendars – this year’s ROC Leadership Institute will take place June 1 – 17. Like last year, there is no need travel to participate; we will be virtual again. We do look forward to resuming the Institute in person in 2022!

The Institute will kick off with an opening session in June 1st, where I’ll be joined by the ROC Association Directors to reflect on the status of resident ownership and to share strategic priorities for 2021 and beyond.

This year, we’re excited to feature an entire educational series specifically for new ROC leaders called ROC 101. As in years past, there will also be courses for seasoned ROC leaders to connect and learn. All you need is an internet connection and a smartphone, computer or tablet to participate.

Course registration will be done through myROCUSA.org. If you’re already a myROCUSA.org Member, I would recommend making sure you can still log on now in case you’ve lost your password or face issues. If you’re not a Member, joining is fast and easy – simply complete the signup form. Please log on before May 1 to avoid any slowdown in choosing courses.

Please note the time of each course in your time zone. If your preferred language is Spanish, simultaneous translation will be available for all the sessions you choose to attend.

As always, the Leadership Institute is completely free to all ROC Members. We just need your time and commitment. I hope you’ll join us.

ROC on!
Paul Bradley, President, ROC USA®

  1. What is ROC 101?  – The opening session of ROC 101 will include a full review of good meeting tools – Agenda, Goals, Ground Rules and Bike Rack.  The second half of the session is a practicum on Good Meetings and Parliamentary Procedure.

  2. How many of you have run a multi-million dollar corporation before? – As a Director on a ROC Board, you need to know how to govern a corporation.  This session is a how-to on governance and who’s accountable!

  3. Don’t Re-invent the Wheel! – If you need a flyer, a policy, a check-list, or guidance on how to form a Committee, or a sub-Committee, you’ve come to the right place!

  4. You Are Part of Something Way Bigger! – ROC Association Directors will provide a forum for all your questions, concerns, and ideas while introducing you to the power and influence you have!

  5. Follow the Money! – The #1 duty of a corporate director is to understand the finances of the business and manage the business for financial stability. You don’t have to be an accountant.

  6. Time to Practice! – Almost everything you need to guide your decision-making is in your bylaws and community rules.  We’ll give you real life scenarios to solve together!  (And…if the answer is not in your bylaws, it’s in your ROC DOCs!)
