Training helps ROCs grow strong

We know that successful resident ownership demands a great deal from community leaders like you. We want to give you every advantage we can.Red and Blue Logo with the text "ROC Leadership Institute" in black.

ROC USA® launched its own annual event in 2018 after nine years of successful participation in the NeighborWorks® America Community Leadership Institute (CLI).

The ROC Leadership Institute is modeled after CLI. This national training event aims to strengthen the voices and skills of volunteer leaders from resident-owned communities. Participants attend with other members from their ROCs and other ROC leaders from across the country.

For years, ROC leaders who attended CLI raved about the experience. They loved the connections made with peers, with technical assistance providers and with ROC USA staff. While they valued the sessions with non-ROC leaders, overwhelmingly their feedback asked us for more time with their peers. That’s why ROC USA launched the ROC Leadership Institute, geared exclusively for ROC leaders.

This event offers a broad choice and a rich array of quality workshops and learning labs discussing community issues and sharing best practices and solutions to the challenges faced by ROCs across the country. Attendees will develop new skills, enhance their leadership experience, and build new collaborative relationships with peers and national partners. Participants at the Leadership Institute will bring back knowledge and skills gained from this experience to affect sustainable, positive change in the communities where they live.

The ROC Leadership Institute is held on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University, where we have use of classroom space, a dining hall and one of the newest (and air-conditioned) dormitories on campus.

ROC leaders are encouraged to apply with another leader from their community and many reapply in following years.  Leaders from the same community who have attended together often say that it is very beneficial to have a second ROC partner.

As hosts, ROC USA doubled the number of training slots available to ROC leaders, welcoming 100 leaders. As always, participation is free to ROC leaders, with all room, board and travel expenses paid by ROC USA.
