Truly moved by obituary mentioning co-op as proud accomplishment

March 14, 2018

It goes without saying the most inspiring part of this work is the people, and the hard work they do to provide stability and security for their neighborhoods.

That’s why when we hear about the loss of a champion from the communities we support, the news hits us hard.  A picture of Drusilla Skora.

Drusilla Skora passed away earlier this year after complications following open heart surgery. Drusilla, 72, was a passionate volunteer, involved with Relay For Life of North Country, the Lancaster (NH) Historical Society and the Lions Clubs in both Lancaster and in Florida, where she spent her winters with her husband, Denis.

Drusilla said that one of her favorite accomplishments in life was her help in forming the Page Hill Mobile Home Park Cooperative in Lancaster in her obituary published in News & Sentinel out of Colebrook, N.H.

The 82-home co-op was bought by residents in 2003 with help from ROC-NH of the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund and the late Executive Councilman Raymond Burton.

Drusilla was part of the effort to secure the funds that allowed residents to purchase the land.

Drusilla was just one of the leaders in our nearly 220 ROCs whose work will stand the test of time. Her legacy includes the contribution she’s made to affordable housing for a working family now or decades from now. Most will never know her name, but they will benefit from her volunteer efforts for years to come.

Reading in her obituary just what being a co-op leader meant to her means the world to me. Of course, we’re glad to be there to help and most certainly we’re grateful for all that co-op leaders to do benefit their communities now and forevermore.

Rest in peace, Drusilla. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
